You know how every time you see a box on the doorstep you have that instant where you think in the back of your mind that maybe, just this once, it’s not going to be something like new filters for the vacuum cleaner or a car part or whatever, but instead a mysterious present from a stranger? Well…

Ta-da!
Here it is, Box no. 34 in the Coraline Mystery Box Swap (just to clarify, this was a swap of handmade boxes inspired by the ones the makers of the Coraline movie sent out to various lucky bloggers–these aren’t “official” Coraline boxes). Thanks so much to my little mochi for organizing this, it was such fun to participate, and thanks to Carmen of Carmenland for making this amazingly cool box.
It was *so* much fun going through all the lovely little bits and bobs Carmen made… So here are a bunch of pictures of everything so other people can enjoy all this neat stuff too (I struggled mightily to take decent photos for once, to do the box justice!).

fig. 3--beautiful mittens!

fig. 4--delightful notecards, with mice, buttons, and jaunty black cats

fig. 5--a seeing stone, a ghost child's eye, and a kit for buttoning one's eyes
I just found a quote from William Steig, who wrote and illustrated absolutely brilliant books (Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, The Amazing Bone, Abel’s Island, Dominic, just for a start), and I wanted to share it:
“I often ask myself, ‘What would be an ideal life?’ –I think an ideal life would be just drawing.”
Aww. So sweet, so simple and so true…man, I just loved that guy. I’m so sad he’s not with us any longer; he passed away in 2003. The Jewish Museum has a nice tribute to his work right now: From the New Yorker to Shrek: The art of Willam Steig. Very much worth taking a look at. Thank you for your wonderful work, Mr. Steig.

Been meaning to add this one for awhile! This is the deviantART site of someone I know from Humboldt State: http://annabelle.deviantart.com/
Hi Annabelle! :-) (just in case I ever tell her I’ve linked to her!)
She does some way cool work. I just love this, like, crazed, colorful looseness she has (something I majorly need to work on in my art, looseness…*heh*)…she has some cool photography too…Sadly I don’t think she’s on deviantART a whole lot anymore, but hopefully she’ll add some more stuff!
Just stumbled across this while supposed to be doing schoolwork, so I haven’t had time to take as close a look as I’d like, but I’ll definitely be going back! So here’s the link so I don’t lose it: sitekreator.com/ADyinArt/blogsite.html
She has all kindsa nifty tips on using polymer clays like Fimo and Sculpey, among other things. Very cool!
