I always wondered why commercials for contests when I was a kid always said that about many entering, few winning… I mean, was that supposed to be motivational, somehow?
“Your odds suck, kid!” That always talked me right out of trying. I think it was kind of a downer message in general, really — “A hundred thousand other kids are entering this contest! You’re just one of billions of other meaningless specks of dust scrabbling around the uncaring universe for the blink of an eye before you disappear! Why bother doing anything!”
Who knows how many cereal box sweepstakes I could have won if it wasn’t for that.
Anyway, my point is:
If you just so happen to have any completed middle grade fiction manuscripts languishing on your hard drive, you have until the end of the day TOMORROW (Aug. 27th, PST) to enter this nifty contest from Chuck Sambuchino’s Guide to Literary Agents blog! Here is where Chuck ‘splains all the rules and details and stuff: rules and details and stuff.
So give it a try! I’m going to. Just, you know, block out the thought of all the other zillions of faceless drones who are entering too.
